CHOPARD WATCHES HAVE LANDED AT ROX

Founded in 1860 in Sonviller, Switzerland, and with a history of creating accurate and precise timepieces for individuals like Tsar Nicholas II – Chopard have history and prestige to rival any watchmaker. Chopard have maintained this reputation through the creation of excellent timepieces and by forging meaningful and lasting relationships. One such relationship is with the Cannes Film Festival, where Chopard have sponsored the Throphée Chopard award since 1998, in addition to making the Palme D’Or – the highest prize awarded.

Another interesting relationship Chopard have developed is with the Mille Miglia car rally, for which it has been a partner since 1988. The Mille Miglia is an Italian 1000 mile open-road endurance race that originally took place between 1927 and 1957. When then race resumed in 1977 it was only open to cars that were produced before 1957 and that had attended the original race, a decision that does nothing to diminish the excitement inherent in motor races but preserves the history and pedigree only found in events like this.

Chopard has created a number of timepieces to celebrate this incredible race, and the model featured here is without doubt one of the best. Intended to recall the classic design of legendary Mille Miglia race cars the GTS features a 43mm black DLC treated steel case, which is paired with a matte black dial to give a clean, uncluttered feel. This colour choice also emphasises the contrast between the dial and the Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock, the remaining hour indexes, the red central seconds hand and the ‘1000 Miglia’ highlight next to the date window at 3 o’clock. Continuing the motoring theme the strap on the GTS is rubber, and resembles 1960s Dunlop tyre treads, as well as being comfortable and practical enough to wear day in, day out. Bearing in mind the proud watchmaking history of Chopard, it must come as no surprise that the GTS is fitted with a chronometer certified self-winding in-house movement. The finishing visible through the sapphire crystal case-back suits the aesthetic of the watch as a whole, and also reflects a much broader attention to detail. This timepiece is limited to 1000 pieces and is available now.

Thirty-eight brilliant cut diamonds weighing 1.96 carats are set in to the bezel, which encloses a precious mother or pearl dial with guilloche centre. Above the dial are seven ‘floating diamonds’ with a combined weight of .35 carats that slide in graceful arcs with the wearers every movement. The 36mm case is stainless steel which creates a beautiful contrast against the 18-carat rose gold of the bezel, and this contrast is carried on to the two-tone bracelet.
