PERFECTLY CHOPARD

As we celebrate welcoming Chopard in to the ROX family with an event in our Argyll Arcade boutique, we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight a pair of remarkable timepieces – and to show you why we’re so excited to work with such a versatile and accomplished watchmaker.

L.U.C TIME TRAVELER ONE

Named to honour the company’s founder – Louis-Ulysse Chopard – the L.U.C collection encompasses only pieces that are designed and manufactured entirely in-house. As you might expect the collection is full to bursting with timepieces that ooze quality and highlight the tremendous watchmaking-skill Chopard have developed over the years. Despite being Chopard’s first ‘worldtimer’ watch the Time Traveler One does more than most, as it displays the time in all 24 zones simultaneously.

The case of the Time Traveler One is 42mm, and while the movement could have been housed in a smaller case the reduction in dial space would have seriously compromised legibility, and Chopard realised that this way the wearer can make the most of the information on display. In a pleasing homage to vintage timepieces, the Time Traveler One features a dual crown layout; one bearing an engraved L.U.C at 2 o’clock is used to adjust local time, while another situated at 4 o’clock and bearing an engraved globe operates the city disc. The decision to use 18-carat rose gold as the material for the case furthers the vintage appeal of the timepiece, and gives the Time Traveler One a sophisticated and elegant appearance.

Powering this time-keeping behemoth is the L.U.C 01.05-L, a self-winding COSC certified chronometer movement that offers 60-hours of power reserve. As it is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback this movement offers more than pure performance, and features beautifully chamfered bridges and Côtes de Genève.

IMPERIALE 36MM

Watchmaking as an industry can sometimes be guilty of neglecting its’ female admirers, but Chopard have certainly not fallen in to that trap. One explanation for this is that Chopard create not only exceptional timepieces, but also a mesmerizing array of fine jewellery, and it is the fusion of these two areas that results in such stunning watches. The Imperiale featured here is an example of what can happen when fine watchmaking and high jewellery combine to make a single, spectacular, piece.

The most striking element of the Imperiale is the stunning contrast between the blue mother of pearl dial and the diamond highlights on the dial and around the bezel. The texture within the mother of pearl gives the dial a beautiful depth, and the ring of diamonds around the centre accentuates this even further. In total there 2.93 carats of diamonds set in to this timepiece, and such care has gone in to the placement of each and every one – including the round-brilliants set in to the crown and the four pear-cuts that adorn the ends of the lugs!

The blue theme is carried over to the strap, which is a blue glossy brushed fabric, and is fastened by an 18-carat white gold pin-buckle with Chopard engraving. Powered by a self-winding automatic movement and with the astonishing attention to detail Chopard are renowned for providing, the Imperiale really is more than just a pretty face!
