Admirers of other iconic Hublot watches will of course be familiar with the titanium H-screws on the bezel, the layered case construction and the use of a natural rubber strap; but that is where the similarities end. The Hublot mantra “The Art of Fusion” is particularly applicable to this watch, as it is such a successful fusion of a traditional tonneau watch shape, and the modernity of other Hublot timepieces.

To make the watch as comfortable and as useable as possible, the case on the Spirit of Big Bang is designed to hug the wrist, and therefore features stunning curved sapphire crystal front and back. This not only shows the skill of Hublot, but again reinforces the modern appeal of the Spirit of Big Bang. Another change designed to appeal to a wider audience is the shift in size down to a 42mm width.

The dial has completely been redesigned for this new version of the Spirit of Big Bang, and it now features the prominent double date wheels at 1 o’clock, running seconds at 9 o’clock and most interestingly – the moonphase at 6 o’clock. Moonphase displays have been popular complications for many years, partly for the aesthetic appeal they bring, but also for the symbolism so inherent in imagery of the moon. The dial as a whole looks technical and shows a great deal of detail, while also managing to remain incredibly legible.

In mechanical terms the Spirit of Big Bang is all the watch you could ever need! The HUB1770 Swiss selfwinding movement has 50 hours of power reserve, and operates with all of the accuracy and reliability we learned to expect from a Hublot timepiece.
